On Friday, November 14, the University of Tennessee Martin hosted the Young Writers Conference. At this conference, UTM had two sessions, and each session had five classes that the students chose from.
Personally, for my first session, I chose the “Maybe I Could Play a Tune” workshop, taught by David Carithers, in which students were encouraged to write creative lyrics and express themselves musically and in new ways. The speaker played a guitar and sang. After we completed the assignment, we were dismissed from our morning block session to go to lunch. For lunch, UTM presented us with a plethora of options to eat from.
For my afternoon session, I chose "Crafting Character through Speech: The Dramatic Monologue" taught by Jeffrey Longacre. In this class, we read through a monologue written a long time ago, and we analyzed it to utilize its literary elements in our writing. Then, we wrote our own monologues.
Afterwards, all of DHS packed up and went home after an amazing time at the Young Writers Conference, 2025.

DHS Seniors Gavin Ball, Elizabeth Lemons, D'Quarte Rivers, Dariel Figueroa-Ramos, Launa White, and Morgan Peckenpaugh enjoy a fall day at UT Martin's Young Writers Conference.
