“It Will End Like This” by Kyra Leigh is a psychological thriller book detailing the story of two sisters, Maddi and Charlotte, and their lives before, during and after their mother’s death. It is fluidly based on the true story of Lizzie Borden, a woman who was suspected of brutally murdering both her father and stepmother with an axe. At the beginning of the book it talks about how the mother was suspected of dying from heart failure. While it was confirmed by doctors and other various specialists, both sisters believed that foul play was involved, and that it could include their father and his mistress as key suspects. It includes flashbacks to help the reader understand the mystery behind their mother’s death, and towards the end you realize that both the sisters are actually unreliable narrators in the story. It also features betrayal, heartbreak and a thrilling action scene between one of the sisters and their guardians. The story is told from both the sisters point of view with every other chapter switching between the two, and it includes multiple side stories with the two sisters such as a side story between one of the sister’s boyfriend and with some additional family members coming in for a short visit. Overall, “It Will End Like This” is a fantastic read for anyone looking to have a good psychological thriller book with great foreshadowing elements. At the beginning of the book, it is a short read at first, but as time goes on it progresses and builds up momentum, making the reader almost get whiplash from how fast the story changes.
