On Thursday, August 21, the DHS Girls’ Soccer Team competed against Millington Central High School at JC Sawyers Stadium. Our Lady Trojans’ soccer team secured its first win of the 2025 season, shutting the Millington Trojans out with a 9-0 victory that ended in a mercy rule flush.

Only seven minutes into the game, junior Meredith Zamzow scored the first point, setting a standard for the remainder of the match. At nearly twenty-two minutes in, senior Ava Winegardener added another goal for the team, pushing the score to 2-0. Roughly eight minutes later, Zamzow found the net once again, raising the score to 3-0. With just under ten minutes remaining until half-time, senior Kathleen Harrell set the score to 4-0.

After half-time, the Lady Trojans showcased excellent energy and dedication. The goals kept coming, with sophomore Haddy Manneh and Harrell both scoring within the first ten minutes of the second half. Twelve minutes into the second half, Zamzow scored the team’s 7th point. To secure their victory, Manneh scored twice consecutively, setting the score at 9-0 and triggering the mercy rule.

The DHS Girls’ Soccer Team has kicked off their season, displaying an explosive start with this impressive win. Their teamwork, energy and precision on the field are setting the tone for what appears to be an exciting season ahead. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Lady Trojans as they take on their next opponent, Brighton, on Monday, August 25!
