All good things come with practice, and that is exactly how the BETA competition works. For the last few weeks, competitors have been feverishly preparing for the BETA convention.
This year, students are competing in large-group talent, engineering, robotics, and many other competitions. This takes time and energy that the BETA students are willingly giving.
For the robotics competition, they have to build a robot, a set, and prepare a speech to give to the judges. During this time, the students are working on various aspects of the preparations. They are able to complete more than one task at once due to multitasking and multiple people on the team.
For the talent skit, practices have been going on twice a week for a few weeks. At these practices, students are going over the motions and words in preparation for the competition. The skit was organized by BETA president Brynlee Seay. The skit is inspired by Hairspray, and the music is from the movie.
The BETA engineering team has also been practicing and is getting ready for their competition. The team is only given a little information about the competition, with the rest of the details being revealed during the ring competition. They have to build a Rue Golburg machine, but the actions will not be revealed until the day of the competition.
Many students are getting ready for the competition at home, with students creating art, trading pins, or taking academic tests. The time before BETA can be stressful, but the students of DHS are ready for the challenge on November 21-23.
