August 26, 2025, marks the start of a new drama club school year, bringing both fright and joy to all drama members alike. With a new fall play underway, auditions have finally commenced. Actors had to have two monologues memorized: one dramatic and the other comedic.
DHS Trojan Drama Club welcomes newcomers to its wonderful family. The drama club invites all to display their talents on the center stage.
“The main reason I wanted to join is the thought of it being interesting, and it gives me the chance to actually do something that would be fun and make new friends with. It’s not as nerve-racking as I thought it would be. But it makes you nervous and anxious once you step on stage,” freshman Tarlisha Randles said.
“I have been a part of the Trojan drama family since my freshman year, but this is the first year I have decided to take the stage. I’m very excited to be able to meet new people and grow old connections,” junior auditioner Sofia Roy said.
Memorization of these monologues, as mentioned earlier, is challenging, as students must recite them while being recorded, which adds a whole new level of anxiety. Overall, auditions bring a whirlwind of emotions, both anxiety and pride in the actors’ work.
“I hope I don’t stutter. I hope I don’t fall on stage. We need more people! You have to have a wide range of emotions; don’t always be serious or always be comedic,” sophomore Raiden Muzzall said.
Drama club is a place where anyone is accepted, no matter what, a place where theater kids can laugh together after a day of stressful classes.
“It’s my safe place. I can be myself here, and it’s really fun. You can connect with people here. It’s like a family,” sophomore Arieanna Campbell said. When asked about acting, “Acting makes me really happy, and it brings me away from reality. It’s like an escape from reality. Band-Aids to my wounds. I love it so much,”
For newcomers, there are many different reasons for joining Drama Club, as it calls upon all who feel the need to express themselves and be surrounded by people who care for them. Auditions are a first taste of being a part of a grand production, such as a play.
Participating in auditions takes grit and countless hours of practice for actors to perfect their craft. Overall, auditions are a learning experience for everyone and are a great opportunity for anyone looking to share their voice and talent for all to see.
