Beliefs are among the most contentious topics of our generation. From politics to religion, there is always some outside force trying to temp you one way or another. I have always believed in, and practiced, Christianity; even when the world seems to contradict me. Being a christian can feel like a difficult task in todays society and generation.
Peer pressure falls on the ears of every high school student. When all of your friends are out having fun on a Saturday night, it is easy to feel like you are missing out. When you inevitably fall to temptation, God will always be there to pick you up. God will never be distant; He is always waiting for you to turn to Him, He wishes for it. The Bible is His greatest tool to reach the people of this world. When you feel lost, the Bible will always have a guide to lead you back to the path.
"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world," Spoke the Lord (John 16:33). If you ever feel like the world is powerful, overwhelming or scary, remember how the Lord overcame all of it. If the world ever seems to win, and you don't understand why he put you through hurt and sorrows, just know that God lets you hit rock bottom so you can find him, and see the he is the rock at the bottom. When you find the Lord, everything else in the world clicks into place.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, he rescues those whose spirits are crushed,” Psalm 34:18.
If you believe in the Lord, you also know of the devil. He was one of God's most trusted angels, who fell to pride. He is known as the father of lies.
“He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he is consistent with his character, for he is a liar, and the father of lies,” John 8:44. The devil will tell you anything you want to hear to make you fall into temptation.
Our generation is overflowing with distraction and pride, but it is also overflowing with a desperate need for Christ. Though the world may tempt us to turn away, God’s light never stops reaching out and calling us home. God started a movement in our generation, and it is time for us to spread it like wildfire. Pray over your food at lunch, and see what happens. Pray for your classmate who might be having a rough day. Spread the gospel in any way that you can, and be unashamed. Let your faith stand out. Let it be a bright light in a dark world. “Do not let anyone think less of you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity,” says 1 Timothy 4:12. If you think you are too young or too inexperienced to tell people about the Lord, you're not!
When the world tries to drown out the Lord, don't let it! Find small acts of kindness to do every day. Whether that's praying before a test or over your friend group or helping someone pick up something they dropped in the hallway, find the Lord in all the small things. Even in the chaos, God hears you. When the devil is knocking at your door, the Lord will be there to help you lock it.
Let us be the generation that brings Jesus back to the focal point. Make our faith so strong it never wavers, let His voice be heard above the roaring waves of the world. No matter how far the devil pulls you out to sea, God will be right there, ready to keep you afloat.
