On Thursday, September 26, the U.S. Values and Constitution series held its third night of weekly activities. Last week's event officially highlighted the Constitution and all of its moving parts. The guest speaker, Dr. Matthew Stafford, kept the audience hooked and entertained while discussing the importance of this foundational document and the different approaches to it.
Student leaders and juniors, McKoyler Thach and Lillian Davis, started the meeting with a short quiz, allowing the crowd to ponder upon fundamental details of the Constitution before Stafford properly explained the concepts. Once the quiz was concluded, Stafford led his lecture.
The Constitution, as those at McIver’s Grant Public Library last Thursday learned, had a complex and difficult process behind it. While everyone may know the Constitution as the overruling law of the United States, it also speaks volumes about other messages, most pertaining to Great Britain. The audience learned about the stories of George Washington, the First and Second Continental Congress, and other notable events.
The stories and lectures shared every Thursday night go a long way to educating the community and keeping the Constitution a relevant topic in society. With cookies, tea, coffee, and other refreshments, the goal is to ensure the audience’s comfort and happiness in the learning environment.
Other student helpers, such as juniors Tyler Borden and Drake Copeland, spared time to greet guests at the door, sign them in, and help set up the refreshments stand. With their help, both the library staff and the audience have experienced smoother transitions between lectures at the last several meetings.
Tomorrow, October 2, Stafford and his student helpers would be pleased to see any returning or new guests at McIver’s Grant Public Library for one last lecture on the law of land.
