Whether it is curling up on the couch and sipping on a warm drink or watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving with your family, it is undeniable that the autumn season is many people’s favorite. The season of fall is upon us, and as the days get colder, it is easy to fall into a bit of a depression.
There are countless ways people can uplift themselves during this somewhat dreary time.
The first course of action is getting comfortable. Pull out the fuzzy socks at the back of your closet and the sweatpants with the fleece lining. This is a crucial step in immersing yourself in the cozy atmosphere of autumn, and not only to cut back on that truly frightening heating bill.
Keeping yourself warm helps to offset the chill outside.
However, this can be challenging to achieve during the day, as besides buying a large coat, it's hard to stay particularly toasty in 40-degree weather. One thing to help is, of course, warm drinks. While coffee is most people's first choice, it's certainly not the only one.
Many teas – both caffeinated and non-caffeinated – achieve the same effect as coffee without the strong, bitter taste. Hot chocolate is another great alternative. A fall twist can be added to these everyday drinks with a splash of cinnamon or pumpkin flavoring. Dropping by Dunkin’ or Java before school or making it at home, a hot drink can surely warm against the cooling wind.
Seasonal depression affects many of us, but that does not mean you can’t do anything to help. While a soft blanket will not fix the chemicals in your brain, it can help mitigate the intensity. So if you catch yourself feeling down in these dreary months, stop and grab yourself a hot pumpkin latte; you might just find yourself leaving that Christmas tree for December.
