Fall is filled with many different activities. From Halloween to Thanksgiving, there are constant preparations for the fall festivities. But most importantly, they are going home and struggling to find a good fall movie to watch.
Struggling to find a movie to watch is something all of us have experienced, and whenever you need recommendations, your TikTok is suddenly useless. However, Trojan Torch is here to help!
Fret no more with this Ultimate Fall Movies Guide: 2025! We have just the movie for you, no matter who you are or what you like.
When it comes to fall movies, genres seem to expand further than we think. There are horror movies, comfortable and cozy movies, slightly unsettling movies, and so on. There is something for everyone.
For the popular movie lovers, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” is typically considered the most fall-themed movie; however, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” is best for the start of fall. The Harry Potter series is known for its appeal during the colder months–every movie dips into Halloween or Christmas, showing how the wizarding world celebrates our beloved holidays. The series is the perfect way to spend your movie night.
I watch this series annually, and can comment that, without fail, it pulls me straight into a fall mood. Magic, a beautiful campus, Christmas carols, and three best friends make my holiday season just a little bit better.
For those who enjoy indie and more low-key movies, there are several films dedicated just to those genres: “Coraline,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “Little Women,” “Corpse Bride,” and “Donnie Darko.” While all these movies differ drastically in plot, filming style, and even setting, they all stimulate thought-provoking ideas and analysis. Choosing a side, theorizing, finding different easter eggs, and more make these movies fun and interactive.
Suppose these movies are your jam (because they are definitely mine). In that case, I also recommend less widely known or appreciated movies, “October Sky,” “Good Will Hunting,” “Dead Poets Society,” “The Breakfast Club,” and “Phantom Thread.” These are definitely some classics, and you have heard the name before. I think it is essential that every teenager living in a small town has an experience with these films.
For a more lighthearted watch, I recommend a more chick-flick kind of movie: “Notting Hill,” “Sixteen Candles,” the “Twilight” series, and “Anastasia.” These movies tend to pique the interest of teenage girls, but I believe their originality and soft filming make them endearing, perfect for a casual movie night.
Of course, there are horror and thriller movies. This genre is a huge umbrella– ”Zombieland” and “Hereditary” are two entirely different movies. My favorite horror movie is “28 Days Later”–a film that seems to be shot on a Kindle Fire, but brings out the scariest and most tragic themes of a zombie apocalypse. There is more to fear than just zombies in this movie.
Then there are the classic horror movies: “Scream,” “Halloween,” “Friday the 13th,” etc. These movies are always a good choice and tend to draw the attention of everyone. Every evening during October and November, I walk inside my house to see one of these movies playing.
With fall upon us and the holiday months coming up, these recommendations are perfect for the occasion. Movie night, fall dates, family events, and even just subtle background noise–these movies will prove satisfactory. I hope you find these movies and films just as enjoyable as I do.
