A Journey to Redemption: A Kite Runner Review

The novel Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini takes place in Afghanistan and the United States from 1960 to the early 2000s. The novel follows the character Amir who grew up during the Soviet-Afghan war and experiences the rise of the Taliban. 

Throughout the novel Hosseini depicts his characters in a true and human-like light. So his characters represent the way that humans feel and react. This therefore, makes the characters relatable and helps to connect the characters to the reader. The story focuses on friendship, guilt and redemption.

   The novel embraces the pain and heartbreak in Amir's life and brings raw emotion to the reader, allowing the reader to understand the decisions that Amir has made throughout his life.

   In chapter nineteen when Amir is traveling back to the war-torn nation of Afghanistan he comes to the realization that he feels like a tourist. His driver Farid tells them that Amir has lived his whole life as a tourist because of the way that he grew up. Amir begins to fully understand that his life has been a lie, allowing the reader to make a connection with Amir.

   In conclusion, Kite Runner highlights the true emotion and feelings experienced throughout one’s life. Through the unfiltered decisions and emotions of the characters the reader is able to connect and experience Amir’s life firsthand.
