National Pet Day was April 11, offering an opportunity to recognize the animals that bring comfort and companionship to students. While The Trojan Torch highlights student voices, many staff members are supported behind the scenes by their pets, who provide a sense of serenity during busy school days and late-night deadlines or study sessions.

Freshman Tera Helper spends her time with her orange cat, Tofu. Known for his bright personality, Tofu is often nearby, whether being mischievous or lounging around the house.

Senior Izzie Odom’s labradoodle, Charlie, has been part of her life for three years.

"She runs through the house and eventually stops and waits for us to let her outside so she can run outside through the bushes," Odom said. The energetic routine has become a regular source of entertainment and joy for Odom.

Senior Bailey Nolen has grown up alongside her Welsh Terrier, Zoey, who is now eight years old. Having had Zoey since she was a puppy, Nolen considers her an important part of her daily life.

Junior Sarah Martinez recently welcomed a two-month-old puppy named Pepper, who is described as friendly and energetic. She also has another dog, Rocky, who is about a year and a half old and helps keep the household active.

Although they are not part of the newsroom, these pets play a role in supporting students through their routines. From offering companionship to providing moments of humor, they contribute in ways that often go unnoticed.

National Pet Day served as a reminder to appreciate the role pets play in everyday life, offering consistency, comfort and connection. For many students, these animals are more than just pets; they are companions who help make stressful days more manageable. As the school year continues, their presence remains a quiet but meaningful part of students’ daily routines.
